💡 Meet the Practitioner

Dr. Muhammad Qasim is a dentist at Beyond Dental Care with a clinical focus on dental implants, crowns and root canal treatment. He qualified in dentistry in 2008 and has practised in Australia since 2015, first in regional community health and then for nine years leading a busy private practice. In 2022 he completed a Graduate Diploma in Dental Implantology and has placed Straumann™ implants since. If you have a missing tooth, a tooth that keeps flaring up, or old dental work that is starting to fail, he will tell you what he would do about it and why. He treats nervous patients regularly, and he does not rush.

Dental appointments involve consent, risk and cost, and those conversations are harder in a second language. For patients who would rather discuss treatment in Urdu, Hindi or Pashto, that option is available without arranging an interpreter or bringing a family member to translate.

Dr. Qasim treats anxious patients regularly and does not treat it as an inconvenience.

He watches for it early. Some people say outright that they are frightened. Others go quiet, or tense up, or their breathing changes. Picking that up before treatment starts is what lets him slow down in time.

There was a patient who began hyperventilating in the chair partway through an appointment. Dr. Qasim stopped. He took her outside for fresh air and stayed with her until her breathing settled, then talked through how she was feeling. Treatment continued only once she said she was ready.

What he does differently:

• Talks first, treats second — the first appointment can be a conversation if that is what you need
• Explains each step before it happens, without burying you in detail
• Agrees a stop signal, and stops when you use it
• Breaks longer treatment into shorter visits
• Goes at the pace you set, not the pace of the schedule

If you have avoided the dentist for years, you will not be lectured about it. Tell the clinic when you book, and Dr. Qasim will plan the first visit around it.

Dr. Qasim’s implant and restorative work is backed by formal postgraduate study and manufacturer-accredited training, not short-course attendance alone.

CEREC same-day crowns. Dr. Qasim has completed Mastering CEREC Modules 1 and 2. Where a case suits it, a crown can be scanned, designed and fitted in one appointment — no impression putty, no temporary crown, no second visit weeks later.

Straumann™ implant system. A Swiss implant system used worldwide, with a documented component range and long-term research behind it. Dr. Qasim completed the Straumann Implant Restorative Program.

Dr. Qasim is a general dentist. He does not hold specialist registration, and he is straightforward about the treatments he thinks are better handled by someone else:

• Braces and clear aligners — referred to orthodontic colleagues
• Dentistry for young children — referred to practitioners who work with children daily
• Full and partial dentures — referred to colleagues who do this work regularly
• Complex surgical cases — including impacted teeth that warrant hospital or specialist management
• Jaw cysts — assessed, then referred to a specialist for removal
• Jaw fractures and major soft-tissue trauma — referred for specialist management. Dr. Qasim treats dental fractures and minor soft-tissue repair himself.

Knowing where your own scope ends is part of practising well. If your treatment sits outside his, he will tell you at the consultation rather than partway through.
