A dental crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that fits snuggly over the visible part of your tooth to restore form and functionality. The material that your crown is made from will depend on your requirements and tooth location. All crown materials are solid and hard-wearing. Porcelain and ceramic dental crowns look incredibly natural, and you may choose gold for aesthetics or strength for high bite pressure.

Dental Crowns Procedure
Your damaged tooth is prepared by shaping it to provide a suitable surface for crown attachment. Using an intra-oral scanner and highly-specialised software, your dentist digitally designs the perfect size, shape, and colour of your crown. Your crown may be milled in the clinic while you wait or sent to our specialised lab for engineering. Unless you have a same-day crown, a temporary crown will be fitted over your tooth to protect the surface until your permanent crown is fitted.
Benefits of Dental Crowns
This minimally-invasive treatment is relatively simple and can provide lasting results for up to 15 years. Crowns are resilient and resist a higher bite force than your natural tooth or composite resin filling. Cosmetic benefits can also be achieved, with crowns used to repair tooth wear and discolouration. Often used to complete restorative dental treatment, crowns can relieve dental discomforts, such as pressure and temperature sensitivity. Finally, dental crowns are one of the most reliable and long-lasting treatments available for damaged teeth. They can:
- Protect a weakened tooth and prevent it from breaking.
- Hold a cracked tooth together.
- Cover a tooth that has a large cavity and little structure remaining.
- Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment.
- Cover a dental implant.
- Cover a misshapen or severely discoloured teeth.
Crowns Treatment Duration
Our same-day crowns are becoming increasingly popular with our busy and time-poor patients; the entire crown process is completed in a single appointment of 2-3 hours.
Traditional crown treatment is generally completed in two visits. The crown preparation appointment is around 90-mins in length, followed by a 60-min trip to insert the crown around a fortnight later.
