About Dr. Matthew Bell
Dr Matthew Bell is a General Dentist at our Burpengary clinic. He graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (UK) in 2021, though his introduction to dentistry came earlier, through a dental laboratory, not a surgery. That hands-on start gave him an eye for the technical side of restorative work that’s stayed with him since. His clinical focus is restorative dentistry and tooth wear, and he holds a Diploma in Prosthodontics. He also sees patients in German and French.
✨ Read Dr. Matthew's full bio
Dr Matthew Bell holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and a Diploma in Prosthodontics. The prosthodontics training reflects where his academic interests have always sat – occlusion, tooth wear, how teeth function together over time rather than just how they look at a single appointment.
His time in a dental laboratory before graduating isn’t just an interesting footnote. When he’s planning an onlay or a complex restoration, he’s thinking about it the way a technician would. How the material behaves, how the margins will sit, what the tooth will be doing in five years. That kind of spatial thinking doesn’t come from a textbook.
Day to day, what Matthew values most is the patient journey itself. He’s not chasing large cosmetic cases, he gets the most satisfaction from seeing someone genuinely turn their oral health around between visits. Better habits, better recall, patients doing themselves a service. That matters more to him than the big-ticket work.
For patients who find dental visits difficult, his approach starts well before any treatment does. He takes time at the initial exam to understand what someone is actually worried about, not just whether they’re anxious, but why, and what would make it manageable. He’ll listen more than he talks, adjust his pace, and won’t push into treatment until the patient is ready. He coached his own mother from being unable to sit in the dental chair at all to attending regular check-ups confidently – she now sees another dentist entirely, which is probably the best possible outcome.
Outside the clinic, Matthew cycles, bakes, follows Formula 1 with some dedication, and travels when he gets the chance.

Dental Treatments & Procedures
Dr Matthew’s clinical focus sits at the
restorative end of dentistry — the kind of work that has a long-term logic to it. At Burpengary, this includes onlays, Michigan splints, removable dentures, and composite restorations. Where a tooth is broken down but doesn’t genuinely need a full crown, he’ll look for a more conservative option first — less tooth removed, same functional result.
For treatment that falls outside his scope — implants, more involved surgical work, he refers to trusted local specialists and stays involved in the coordination, so nothing falls through the gap between referrals.
