Emergency Dental Care
Dental emergencies can occur unexpectedly and require immediate attention to reduce pain, prevent further damage, or save your tooth. Remember, prompt treatment can often mean the difference between saving and losing a tooth. During your emergency appointment, the dentist will assess the situation and provide pain relief. Instructions will be given for follow-up care.
Common dental emergencies include:
- Severe toothache or dental pain
- Knocked-out tooth
- Cracked or fractured tooth
- Lost filling or crown
- Swelling in the face or gums
Call or leave a voicemail (after hours). We’ll contact you to schedule the appointment.
Clear Aligners
Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth. This modern approach offers a discreet alternative to traditional metal braces, making it popular among both teenagers and adults. The treatment begins with a consultation and 3D scanning of your teeth. Custom-made aligners are then created to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position.
Invisalign can address various orthodontic issues, including:
- Mild to moderate misalignment
- Gaps between teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Some bite issues (overbite, underbite, crossbite)

Dental Implants
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots surgically placed into the jawbone to support replacement teeth. The procedure involves comprehensive exams, 3D imaging, and surgical placement of the implant into the jawbone. This is followed by a healing period and the attachment of an artificial tooth. The entire process typically involves 4-5 visits over 3-6 months.
Treatable Conditions:
- Single tooth loss
- Multiple teeth loss
- Full arch replacement
Click for detailed information on dental implants, including pricing and treatment options.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve appearance. The process involves an initial consultation, teeth cleaning, and minimal enamel removal. Custom-designed veneers are then bonded to the front surface of your teeth. The procedure typically requires 2 visits, each lasting 60-120 minutes.
Treatable conditions:
- Discoloured teeth resistant to whitening
- Worn down or chipped teeth
- Misaligned or irregularly shaped teeth
- Gaps between teeth
See prices, treatment details and everything you need to start your smile journey with veneers.
Professional Teeth Whitening
In-chair teeth whitening is a professional-grade treatment that safely lightens tooth enamel, resulting in a brighter smile. The procedure begins with a dental cleaning and examination. A professional-grade whitening gel is then applied to your teeth and activated by a special light. The entire process takes about 90 minutes and is completed in a single visit.
Common causes of tooth discolouration include:
- Consumption of staining foods and beverages (coffee, tea, red wine)
- Tobacco use
- Aging
- Certain medications
- Genetics
Find out more about our in-chair or convenient take-home teeth whitening options.
Colour Matched Fillings
Colour matched fillings, also known as composite resin fillings, are made from a mixture of plastic and fine glass particles, allowing them to closely match the colour and texture of your natural teeth. The procedure begins with the removal of decayed tooth material and thorough cleaning of the affected area. The composite resin is then applied in layers, with each layer hardened using a special light. The filling is then shaped and polished to match your bite and tooth contours.
Colour matched fillings are ideal for:
- Small to medium-sized cavities
- Chipped tooth repair
- Closing small gaps between teeth
- Cosmetic improvements to tooth shape or colour
Dental fillings prevent further tooth damage. Learn more about tooth filling types, decay and your treatment options.
Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a cap-like restoration that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are typically recommended when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but doesn’t require extraction. Normally, the crown placement process usually involves two visits. However, we have CEREC technology right here on-site at our dental practice. This is great news for our patients in Narangba and surrounding areas, as it allows us to create and place high-quality, durable ceramic (or porcelain) crowns in a single appointment.
Common reasons for needing a crown include:
- Protecting a weak tooth from fracturing
- Restoring a fractured tooth
- Covering a dental implant
- Supporting a tooth with a large filling
- Holding a dental bridge in place
- Covering misshapen or severely discoloured teeth
See if dental crowns are right for you. Learn about crown types, benefits, procedure and prices.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding is a cosmetic dentistry procedure where a tooth-coloured resin material is applied and hardened with a special light, bonding it to the tooth to improve a person’s smile. The bonded tooth is trimmed, shaped, and polished for a natural look. Dental bonding is a minimally invasive procedure typically completed in one appointment. It is also less expensive than veneers or crowns.
Dental bonding can be used to:
- Repair chipped or cracked teeth
- Close small gaps between teeth
- Improve the appearance of discoloured teeth
- Change the shape or length of teeth
- Protect exposed tooth roots due to receding gums
Explore dental bonding options. See Pricing, Treatment Steps & More
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is a dental procedure used to save a tooth that has been badly damaged due to decay, repeated dental procedures, or trauma. The treatment involves removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it, then filling and sealing it. After the procedure, you may experience some sensitivity or discomfort for a few days. This can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.
Signs you might need root canal therapy include:
- Severe tooth pain when chewing or applying pressure
- Prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Discolouration of the tooth
- Swelling and tenderness in nearby gums
- A persistent or recurring pimple on the gums
Learn more about root canal therapy and how it can save your smile.
Check-up & Clean
Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are cornerstone of preventive dentistry, essential for maintaining optimal oral health and detecting potential issues early. Remember, your oral health is connected to your overall health. Regular dental check-ups can help detect systemic health issues like diabetes and heart disease in their early stages.
Benefits of regular check-ups and cleans:
- Early detection of dental problems
- Prevention of gum disease and tooth decay
- Fresher breath and a brighter smile
- Potential cost savings by avoiding major dental work

Your Dental Health Questions Answered
We understand that you might have questions about your dental health. To help you make informed decisions, we’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions by our valued patients in Narangba and the surrounding communities. Our experienced dental team is here to provide expert answers and guidance.
At what age should I bring my child in for their first dental visit?
We recommend bringing your child in for their first dental visit before their second birthday,
This is because early visits help children get comfortable with the dental environment, allow us to detect potential issues early, and provide guidance on proper oral hygiene.
Kids Dentistry in Photos. Tap/Click to Drag
Most children aged 0-17 are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,052 in benefits for basic dental services. You can use that money to pay for your child’s dental checkups, cleanings, fillings, and other treatments at your local dental clinic. This makes early check-ups more accessible for Narangba families.
Do you accept my dental insurance?
Yes! We accept all dental insurance providers. We closely work with CBHS, HCF, NIB, TUH, and smile.com.au for dental coverage. We also work with other major providers like HBF, GMHBA, Frank, AAMI, and Union Health, among many others. Our goal is to make your dental care as affordable as possible, regardless of your insurance provider.
Do you help patients with dental anxiety or fear?
We certainly do. Dental fear is common and takes many forms. Dr. Nick Jin specialises in helping patients who experience dental anxiety or phobia.
“Some people feel a bit nervous about needles or the drill. While others have deeper fears from past experiences or dental phobia.”
As your trusted Narangba dentist we will tailor your experience to your comfort level. If you’re a little nervous, we might simply chat with you and explain each step of the procedure. If your anxiety is more severe, we offer options such as:
- Longer, more relaxed appointments
- A pre-appointment consultation to discuss your concerns
- Sedation dentistry to help you feel calm
- The comfort menu with items like stress balls or weighted blankets to help you relax
“We also practice regular breaks during treatment. We can pause the procedure at any time to check in with you, answer questions, and give you a chance to relax before continuing. This can be particularly helpful for patients with dental anxiety”
How often should I visit the dentist for a check-up and clean?
We generally recommend coming in for a check-up and clean every six months. It’s the best way for us to catch any little problems before they become big ones, perform a thorough examination, and make sure your smile stays healthy.
Everyone’s different. How often you need a checkup will really depend on your own situation, age, health history. If you have gum disease, are pregnant, you’re living with diabetes, or you smoke – you might visit us more often than every 6 months.
By the end of the day, it’s all about preventing problems before they start. Regular visits can save you from a lot of pain and expense later on.
If you’re unsure what’s right for you, Dr. Jacky suggests visiting us so we can get to know you and your dental history better. We’ll work together to figure out the best plan to keep your smile healthy and beautiful.
What are the early signs of gum disease?
Keep an eye on your gums as they can say a lot about your health,
Healthy gums are pink, not red or puffy. If your gums hurt or bleed when you brush or floss, or you have persistent bad breath that smells a bit like rotten eggs, these may be signs of gum disease. The rotten egg smell could be caused by a bacteria called Porphyromonas gingivalis, which releases stinky sulphur compounds and is dangerous to gums. If you have receding gums, it could mean that the bone and tissue are weakening.
“If you notice any of these signs, don’t panic. The sooner we catch gum disease, the easier it is to treat. We have a range of effective treatments, from deep cleaning to more advanced procedures, depending on how far it’s progressed.”
How can I improve my oral hygiene at home?
Brush, floss, clean your tongue, use mouthwash, eat healthy and visit your dentist regularly. Good oral hygiene starts with these basics.
- First and most important is to brush twice a day, for two minutes each time, using fluoride toothpaste and soft-bristled brush.
- Secondly, don’t forget to clean your tongue as bacteria loves to accumulate there.
- Thirdly, floss daily to get rid of food between your teeth and along the gumline.
- Additionally, we recommend using an antimicrobial mouthwash, which you can find at most pharmacies such as Star Discount Chemist Narangba. Mouthwash helps to protect teeth against tooth decay and further reduce bacteria.
- Tip five is to limit sugary snacks and drinks to protect your teeth and gums.
No need to make drastic changes overnight. Start small and improve healthy habits over time! Finally see your dentist for a thorough check-up & Clean. Regular check-ups help us catch any issues early and avoid costly treatments in the long run.
What should I expect after a tooth extraction?
Essentially, there are three stages to the tooth extraction healing process: immediate effects (within 24 hours), short-term healing (days to weeks), and long-term healing (weeks to months)
The duration of each stage can vary depending on individual health and the complexity of the extraction.
Immediate effects
- Some bleeding is normal immediately after the extraction. Biting down on gauze to apply pressure typically is enough to help stop the bleeding.
- The numbness around the extraction area will gradually wear off after a few hours, but you may still experience discomfort and swelling in the area.
This is normal part of the healing process and can be easily managed with over the counter medication. We may prescribe antibiotics as a precautionary measure to prevent infection.
Short-term Healing (typically 1-2 weeks)
The second stage of the tooth extraction is the healing process. A blood clot will form in the socket where the tooth was removed.
Try to avoid hard, crunchy foods as well as brushing or rinsing vigorously as this clot is essential for healing
Over the next few days, you should notice a gradual decrease in pain and swelling. Gently brush your teeth and rinse with salt water to keep the area clean.
Long-Term Healing (from a few weeks to several months)
Final stage is the long-term healing. The length of this phase can vary depending on the complexity of the extraction, the patient’s age, and their overall health. Essentially, during this phase, the bone starts to gradually regenerate, and the gum tissue heals and closes over the area.
