About Dental Crowns

We always want what is best for you, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer same-day crowns utilising CEREC technology. Milled on-site at our clinic these single visit Dental Crowns provide a more accurate and comfortable fit than conventional Dental Crowns. However, like conventional crowns, our Dentists use them to:

  • Strengthen a tooth that has been left weak following root canal therapy
  • Support a tooth that has very little natural structure remaining
  • Conceal a badly stained tooth
  • Change the shape of a misshapen tooth
  • Complete a dental implant

Crowns are also used in Dental Bridges for patients looking to replace missing teeth.

Dental Bridges – How They Work

If you have missing teeth, you might want to consider getting a dental bridge at our clinic. You might not be aware of this, but when there is a gap in the smile, the adjacent teeth often shift in an attempt to close the gap. Over time, this can cause misaligned teeth and affect your bite.

Gaps in the smile can make it more difficult to eat and speak clearly, and can affect your confidence. A dental bridge offers a solution if you’re missing one or more teeth by filling the empty space with a natural-looking replacement tooth or teeth.

A dental bridge is made up of two crowns that are placed over the teeth at either end of the gap in the smile (abutment teeth) in addition to one or more false teeth (pontics) that connect the two crowns and fill the gap.

The bridge can be constructed of various materials including porcelain and porcelain-fused-to-meta (PFM), while the crowns are carefully colour-matched to the existing teeth so they blend in seamlessly for a flawless smile.

Should the abutment teeth not be healthy, then dental implants provide an alternative means of securing the bridge.

How Long Do Crowns And Bridges Last?

Both CEREC and conventional crowns are designed to withstand normal wear and tear and on average last between five and ten years. However, we advise you to avoid grinding or clenching your teeth to help preserve your crown’s lifespan.

With proper care and maintenance, a dental bridge can average a lifespan of ten years, and often longer.

Do Dental Bridges Have Any Disadvantages?

The main disadvantage of a traditional dental bridge is that the otherwise healthy teeth have to be modified to accommodate the crowns. This can weaken them and make them more susceptible to decay. The good news is that isn’t the case with implant-retained Dental Bridges which, as the name suggests, are supported by Dental Implants and not your natural adjacent teeth. Get in touch today.
